Dies Natalis 2011- Food for Health

The programmes of the official ceremony of Dies Natalis 2011 and the symposium that preceded focused on developments in food sciences that might help to improve the health of people and animals.

93rd Celebration

The effect of food on the health of people and animals is complex as food contains many nutrients that have an individual as well as a combined effect. The effect of lifestyle and other factors on this relationship makes it even more complicated to understand.Scientific insight into the relation between food, health and lifestyle is making significant progress as societal and individual interest in this topic is rapidly increasing. This is a result of strongly enhanced health problems related to overweight in our society. Insights into the effect of various aspects of food and lifestyle on living organisms may help to improve the quality of life of people and animals. To make real progress on this issue, a close cooperation between life sciences, medical sciences and social sciences is required.
