EU School Fruit and Vegetable Programme festively closed with pop-up tasting restaurant
This year’s EU-School Fruit and Vegetable Programme was festively closed today at Vossenburcht primary school in Nijmegen. More than 3,100 schools participated in this 13th edition of the EU School Fruit and Vegetable Programme. All participating schools received free fruit and vegetables three days a week for the past twenty weeks.
To celebrate the end of this year’s EU School Fruit programme, the children of the student council and the pupils from group 7 at Vossenburcht primary school in Nijmegen opened a pop-up tasting restaurant at their school. They made a variety of dishes using different fruits and vegetables, with a focus on experiencing and discovering new flavours. Special guests included Mayor Hubert Bruls and Floor Boselie-Abbenhuis from the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, who helped the pupils end the programme in style.
More schools set fruit and vegetable days
More schools are setting fixed days for eating fruits and vegetables. According to research commissioned by EU School Fruit and Taste Lessons, 63% of the schools surveyed this year had one or more fixed fruit and vegetable days compared to 50% in 2019. These figures reveal that more schools are adopting nutritional policies aimed at healthy eating.

The EU School Fruit and Vegetable Programme is financed by the European Union and carried out on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature, and Food Quality. The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) is responsible for the implementation of the regulation.
