Adaptive Water Management

Adaptive Water Management

The World Economic Forum identified the water crisis and lack of adaptation strategies as one of the largest risks for global economy in their Global Risk report (2017). Sea level rise, increased river discharge, increased precipitation as well as longer periods of droughts require adaptation strategies. Countries need to invest in sustainable solutions to prevent floods and droughts.

We are involved in many programmes such as Delta programme, Room for the River, Building with Nature and the Climate Buffer Programme, all providing knowledge on nature-based solutions for dealing with floods and droughts.

Wageningen Environmental Research offers innovations and evidence-based knowledge about ecosystem-based adaptation strategies to prevent floods and droughts for water authorities and responsible governments.
