Land Soil Crop Information Services for Climate-Smart Agriculture in East Africa
January 1, 2022 - On Tuesday, January 25th 2022, the development of Land Soil Crop Information Services hubs to support climate-smart agriculture in Ethiopia, Kenya and Rwanda was launched. -
Netherlands East African Dairy Partnership (NEADAP2)
November 1, 2021 - By bringing together relevant dairy actors in East Africa around scalable solutions, NEADAP creates synergy on dairy development. Through collaboration on the key themes of healthy diets, milk quality, extension services, and sustainable farming, NEADAP contributes to safe and nutritious dairy products, employment, and ecologically sound food production. -
Horti Nigeria: a more sustainable Nigerian horticulture sector
November 1, 2021 - With the Horti Nigeria project, Wageningen University & Research with partners want to facilitate the development of a sustainable and inclusive horticulture sector. A sector that contributes to food and nutrition security in Nigeria. -
Ethiopia-Netherlands Seed Partnership
September 10, 2021 - Enabling the private sector in Ethiopia to deliver farmers high quality seed of improved varieties – that’s the mission of the Ethiopian-Netherlands Seed Partnership. The Partnership will increase 150,000 households’ crop productivity and diversity by 50%, create 2,000 jobs and increase the area under sustainable agricultural practices (Photo above: Lex Schmeetz). -
Resilient Agriculture for Inclusive and Sustainable Ethiopian food systems (RAISE-FS)
July 1, 2021 - The four-year Resilient Agriculture for Inclusive and Sustainable Ethiopian Food Systems programme (RAISE-FS) is aimed to bring about transformation in the Ethiopian food system. RAISE-FS will develop and implement a demand-driven and interdisciplinary approach to Research for Food System Transformation and as such contribute to the Government of Ethiopia’s transformational agenda. -
Pro-ARIDES project aims at increased resilience and economic development of Sahel region
January 1, 2021 - The ten-year Pro-ARIDES project (2021-2030) is designed to contribute to increased resilience, food security and household incomes for farmers and (agro) pastoralists in the Sudano-Sahelian zone of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger. It is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and executed by SNV, CARE-Nederland, Wageningen University & Research and KIT Royal Tropical Institute. -
Nigeria-Netherlands Collaborative Seed Programme
November 1, 2020 - In April of 2021, the Collaborative Seed Programme - a collaboration between Dutch and Nigerian seed sector partners – has been launched. Marja Thijssen, senior advisor seed systems at Wageningen University & Research, and Chinedu Agbara, programme manager on the Nigerian side, provide insight in the objectives. -

Cooperation WUR and two Chinese institutes on international development
January 1, 2020 - China is an increasingly important player in international development amongst others in what is called South-South Cooperation (SSC), an initiative launched by the FAO in 1996 that was considered an alternative to the conventional “North-South" international development relations. China has become one of the biggest contributors to the FAO SSC programme with projects implemented in countries in the South worldwide. These projects include agricultural technology transfer, variety development and crop demonstration, agricultural research and training. -
FNS-REPRO: building food system resilience in protracted crises
October 1, 2019 - The Food and Nutrition Security Resilience Programme (FNS-REPRO) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Wageningen University & Research (WUR), is a four-year plan addressing the cause‑effect relationship between conflict and food insecurity in Somalia, South Sudan and Sudan. FNS-REPRO is the first programme in Eastern Africa specifically designed to foster peace and food security at scale.
