Project

Design of climate-smart and nutrition sensitive investments

Following an IFAD designed project on the adoption of climate adaptation measures, Wageningen Centre for Development Innovation (WCDI) provided technical support to develop an integrated approach for designing climate-smart and nutrition-sensitive investments.

The reports disclosed on this webpage describe the findings of three country studies on climate change and nutrition linkages. The studies were conducted in close collaboration with local stakeholders in Lesotho, Ghana and Zimbabwe. Based on a thorough situation analysis for climate, nutrition and the interlinkages, the reports present potential pathways and interventions to achieve both climate action and nutrition outcomes.

In an interactive PDF, WCDI explored the conceptual linkages between climate change and nutrition using a food system approach. The report also reflects on the current body of information derived from projects promoting climate change mitigation and adaptation, with nutrition co-benefits and vice versa. The recommendations in this report can inform future design and implementation of projects that seek to achieve both climate change mitigation and adaptation objectives as well as improved nutrition.

Video: The climate-nutrition nexus: linkages and implications

In a 5-minute explainer video, IFAD and WCDI illustrate the conceptual linkages between climate change and nutrition: “How is climate change affecting nutrition and vice versa?” By following Jane, a young farmer from Zimbabwe, the linkages and implications of the climate-nutrition nexus are explained. Examples of interventions in tackling malnutrition and taking climate action are also provided.

This video can be used for training purposes to encourage discussion around the climate-nutrition nexus. Also watch this video in Spanish or French.
