We develop high value-added food and non-food products from agrifood side streams, both for consumers and businesses. We also develop new processes for extracting components and identify new applications for existing processes. Within the project Anti-solvent Crystallization, for example, we applied a novel technology for cost-efficient extraction of sugars and possibly other components , such as amino acids, organic acids and carbohydrates from different waste streams. Using separation and processing technology, we developed a tomato box from the waste stems of the tomato plant. And within the project CARVE we support industrial potato processors to develop high-quality food ingredients made from potato peels.
In our organization, specialists from different fields are collaborating closely with each other. Our expertise and technology portfolio ranges from pre-treatment and conservation technology, logistics, separation technology, mild conservation and product development to fermentation, biotechnology and chemical modification. This broad approach allows us to support partners throughout the chain – from farmer to retailer and waste processor – to create processing of waste streams towards value added products.
