A reference material is a substance or material which is sufficiently homogenous and well established to be used for the calibration of an apparatus, evaluation of a measurement or to validate analytical methods.
In combination with participation in proficiency tests this provides good evidence of internal and external quality control assessment, as required by accreditation bodies.
Features of Wageningen Food Safety Research reference materials
Reference materials of Wageningen Food Safety Research have the following features:
- Reference samples: food and feed matrices containing one or more determinants at concentrations similar to those found in real samples. The consensus value has been estimated by the participants of the Wageningen Food Safety Research proficiency testing scheme using a variety of methods. Materials are naturally incurred or spiked.
- Reference standards: standards for residue analysis.
