Single Particle Calculation tool

Wageningen Food Safety Research has developed a Single Particle Calculation tool (SPC). This is a spreadsheet that can be used with any type/brand of ICP-MS to evaluate single particle ICP-MS data.

Detection and characterisation

With the Single Particle Calculation tool you can calculate and evaluate spICP-MS data for the detection and characterisation of nanoparticles.

The SPC is a spreadsheet for the processing of ICP-MS data acquired in single particle, or time-resolved analysis mode. This technique is developed for the detection and characterisation of nanoparticles.

Thoroughly evaluated

The spreadsheet has been thoroughly evaluated in several series of research and routine samples over the last three years, in two international workshops (2012 and 2013), as well as in an interlaboratory method performance study (2013).

Data from each type of quadrupole

The SPC spreadsheet is in an Excel format and is capable of processing data from each type of quadrupole or sector-field ICP-MS system. It is accompanied by a standard operating procedure, “Nanoparticle suspensions – counting and sizing nanoparticles via single particle inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry”, describing spICP-MS analyses including the use of the SPC spreadsheet.
