Multi-level learning in the governance of adaptation (PhD project - Javier Gonzales-Iwanciw)
May 30, 2023 - Project - The project analyses the role of learning occurring across levels of governance in relation to climate change adaptation. This is done looking at the different ways multi-level learning has been conceptualized in the scientific literature, the methods adopted to assess multi-level learning and the study of the empirical evidence obtained in case studies conducted across levels of governance including the multi-lateral process of the UNFCCC, and adaptation planning occurring in national adaptation processes. -
Bio-based production in developing countries
July 2, 2023 - Project - The primary aim is to investigate the potential of augmenting bio-based production in developing countries, utilizing insights from the banana sector in Uganda. The central objective of this study is to analyse how the current food supply system can be restructured to incorporate both food and bio-products, with the goal of enhancing agro-industrialisation in Uganda. The core focus of this research is on value addition to the banana plant. -
Accelerating the transition to plant-based proteins
June 30, 2023 - Project - Replacing meat and dairy by plant-based alternatives may not be easy since meat and dairy are so deeply rooted in consumption practices. We use categorization theory to shed light on how meat and dairy alternatives are perceived by consumers and what the consequences are for adoption. -
Tracking climate change adaptation in livestock systems (PhD project - Lucy Njuguna)
May 2, 2023 - Project - Ambiguity in concepts, lack of appropriate tools for adaptation tracking, and scarcity of data on adaptation hinder the assessment of if adaptation is taking place and its outcomes across space and time. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to build knowledge on how to design tools that are suited for tracking adaptation across scales over extended periods. -

Hitchhikers guide to using drones and auditory cues to scare flying moths to death in greenhouses
October 31, 2022 - Project - The goal of this project is to understand the mechanisms behind in-flight escape behaviour of moths caused by auditory cues from their predators like bats (and drones in this case). -
COMFOCUS: Communities on Food Consumer Science
June 30, 2023 - Project - COMFOCUS is a collaborative project across Europe aimed at integrating the field of food consumer science by linking researchers and their data. The project seeks to make food consumer science data findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR) through Open Science and Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) principles.
To achieve this goal, COMFOCUS integrates nine key European research infrastructures to promote optimal use and joint development, making high-quality services and resources available to the academic and private research community. -
