Fitting a model to given data by finding the appropriate parameter values is a common task in Systems Biology. Still, this often fails. This one-day tutorial will give PhD students and postdocs a basic understanding of those aspects of parameter estimation that are important in the Systems Biology practice. In this course we discuss theoretical basics, existing methodologies, practical problems, and successful examples. This course starts from a basic level, but also includes - in addition to the former edition - more advanced aspects such as identifiability, parameter uncertainty, and the pros and cons of existing search algorithms. A short practical is part of the course, in which Excel and Matlab will be used.
