In the increasingly expanding metropoles in developing and upcoming countries sufficient food and resource efficiency converge into concepts that address the zero-waste issue of efficient use of resources in metropolitan areas. Concepts like urban metabolism connect with the circularity of chains within the metropolitan boundaries in general, and with urban (food) waste and agricultural production in particular.
Here transition towards a bio-economy is connected with the decrease of the sensitivity for disturbances in the supply of the urban society by strengthening circular chain networks of local processing and production units. Food and nutrition security can be modelled with this approach in a way to show shifts in agricultural production and its use for other purposes then food will become apparent in the future. This project will help to secure the future food basket for all.
