The soil is the basis for agricultural production and processes related to climate and nature. A variety of soil processes is important to agricultural production; the availability of minerals (chemical), the compaction of the soil (physical) and soil life (biological). All these processes are influenced by external processes that affect quality and function of the soil, and consequently impact water and air quality. Soil research is carried out on a local, regional, national and global scale. Knowledge about the soil can contribute to sustainable soil use and help plan the sustainable design and management of our living environment.
