After regeneration followed by an embargo period the first 11 accessions of Asparagus officinalis and two accessions with unknown species became recently available

Peppers from Bhutan Maldives, Syrian Arab Republic, Uzbekistan and Zambia

During the eighties the International Plant Genetic Resources Institute (IPGRI) organized collecting missions all over the world. Some of these collected samples have never been available. In cooperation with the World Vegetable Center in Taiwan we have added 36 Capsicum accessions from these missions  to our collection: a Capsicum annuum from Bhutan and one from Uzbekistan, 6 C. annuum and 6 C. chinense from the Maldives, 11 C. annuum from Syrian Arab Republic and 10 C. frutescens from Zambia. We tried to gather as much as possible passport information about these samples from old archives that were made available by Bioversity.

Caraway from Germany

In 1994 the Bayerische Landesanstalt and the Centre for Plant Breeding and Reproduction (CPRO, now part of Wageningen University and Research) collected caraway in Bavaria, Germany. From this mission 7 accessions are now part of the collection from which 3 are added recently. Currently the  caraway collection consists of 23 accessions of Carum carvi. The accessions originate from European countries and one from Japan.

Lettuce varieties from Dutch breeding companies

In cooperation with breeding companies we regularly add a selection of lettuce varieties to enlarge the diversity of our collection. Most recently, 9 new Lactuca sativa varieties from 4 breeders could be placed in the public domain and were added to our collection.

Pea varieties from the Netherlands

Like lettuce we also increase the diversity of our pea collection by adding varieties. Recently 4 Dutch varieties, received from Nunhems are added: Groene capucijner, Karesa, Lipresa and Dunja.

Eggplant from the former “Nijmegen collection”

The Solanaceae collection from the Radboud University, Nijmegen is not available anymore since 2018. In March 2019 the collection was transferred to CGN. Depending on our available resources we want to make this material available again if it is adding diversity to our crop collections. As a first step  6 Solanum melongena accessions, which were already transferred to CGN before 2018, were recently made available.

  • Accession numbers: 25655 – 25659.
