The new edition of Cryopreservation and Freeze-Drying Protocols is now published in the series “Methods in Molecular Biology”. The book gives both background information and practical protocols for cryopreservation and freeze-drying of biological cells and tissues that can be applied in research and in practice.

The book comprises three parts, covering fundamental aspects, methods used in research, and practical protocols, respectively. The latter part contains, among others, chapters on cryopreservation of semen, oocytes, and embryos of various farm animal species, including cattle, pig, horse, and poultry. A new chapter in this book about cryopreservation of avian semen was authored by our colleague Henri Woelders.

For conservation of genetic diversity and for other applications in farm animals, the chapters on preservation of ovarian cortex, stem cells, and tissues are also important. The book also contains a number of chapters on cryopreservation of seeds, pollen, and other types of plant germplasm.
