Guidelines Foodathon

Before applying and completing the application form, it is important that you carefully read these guidelines. Depending on how you will participate, online or in Wageningen, the Netherlands, you need to read the corresponding section. If you intend to participate online, please read the first section “Online Participants”. If you would like to participate by being present in Wageningen, read the second section “Participants in Wageningen”. The deadline for applying is the 30th of June 2018 at 11.59 PM, European time. Posts are limited, it is therefore advisable to apply as soon as possible. Selected applicants will be contacted by the 15th of July.

Important: when applying, you are asked to insert a preference about the themes your team would like to work on. Details about the themes can be found in a separate section in the menu on the right.

1.   Online Participants

Mode of participation: if you apply as an online participant, you need to first form a team and then complete the application form. It is important that all members will be able to gather in the same place from 8 AM of the 30th of August to 5.30 PM of the 31st of August, according to the European time zone. Teams with members participating from different locations will not be accepted, as that may create problems IT-wise.

Team requirements: Members in a team must be between four and six and should be students or young professionals, between 20 and 35 years old. Teams are expected to be multidisciplinary. In order to come up with a consistent solution, it is indeed better to have team members with a variety of expertise. It is highly recommended that all members have some university-level knowledge on food systems and SDGs. If you do not have a team, but still want to participate, you can look for motivated people willing to participate from your region through the Facebook group Foodathon Participants 2018 and form a team.

IT requirements: As you are asked to constantly work in the Foodathon for 36-hours, it is key to have a good, high-speed, stable connection. A weak internet connection can represent a threat for your participation.

Participation Fee: Participation is free for online participants.

Application Form: In the application form you need to indicate the name of your team and who the team leader is. In order to do this, you first have to have a team. When applying, it is required to indicate three of the proposed themes, ranking them in order of preference. Please, make sure that your preferences reflect the ones of your team. Also, it is asked to write a short (no more than 250 words) motivation. The motivation should contain the reasons why you would like to participate in the Foodathon and how you would contribute in solving challenges related to the themes you indicated.

Please, note that members may be added to teams even after completing the application form, but all names should be forwarded to e-conference.sdg@wur.nl no later than the 30th of June 2018. If the minimum of four members is not reached by the deadline, the team will not be taken into consideration.
