2021 is the year of climate adaptation. This 5th edition of European Climate Change Adaptation Conference (ECCA) comes at the right time, after the first global Climate Adaptation Summit in January 2021, and before the COP 26 in Glasgow in November 2021.

Since the start of this ECCA edition on 25 May, five webinars have now been successfully completed with around 500 participants on the topics of climate adaptation. Participants includes amongst other researchers and adaptation experts, policy-makers, local authorities, practitioners in climate risks management, investors, NGOs and all interested individuals.

Role of Wageningen University & Research

Wageningen Environmental Research (WENR) has an important role in this Lustrum event: as a contributor in the organising committee, in 3 of the 9 webinars, and of course in the content of the webinar programmes:

  • on the topic of financing climate adaptation (Ingrid Coninx & Karianne de Bruin)
  • on climate change & health (Ingrid Coninx)
  • on nature as a solution for resilience, mitigation and sustainable development (Marjolein Sterk)
  • on citizen engagement on climate action (Fokke de Jong & Ingrid Coninx).

A large part of these contributions are carried out on behalf of the JPI Climate programme of SINCERE (Strengthening INternational Cooperation on climatE change Research), where WENR has an important role in the valorisation of the climate research outcomes. As such WENR has the lead in conducting the key messages to ECCA’s High-level event on 22 June and beyond (COP26).

Throughout the month of ECCA 2021, attendees are invited to network and contribute actively to strengthen the community of adaptation practice. They can also organise individual meetings on the platform. The selection of European projects focusing on climate adaptation solutions is exhibited in the e-library for learning and subsequent exchanges with the project leads.

Detailed programmes are available on the website where you can find the speakers, webinar champions and other participants to engage with, as well as all recordings of sessions in case you missed one. Most webinars have free seats, so that you can easily log in a couple of minutes before the webinar starts.
