PhD defence: Cost-effective monitoring of contaminants in the dairy supply chain

On Friday the 29th of October, Business Economics Group (BEC) student Zhengcong Wang will defend his PhD thesis 'New methods for optimizing monitoring of aflatoxins and dioxins in the food supply chain.' Zhengcong feels that optimal allocation of food safety resources is an effective way to solve food safety issues. “Food safety monitoring verifies the safety of products in the food supply chain, to guarantee human health. My PhD research focused on improving the monitoring of chemical hazards in the food supply chain.”

In his country of origin, China, Zhengcong obtained his bachelor, with the subject “Food Quality and Safety”, at the Huazhong Agricultural University in Wuhan. His interest in Food Safety brought Zhengcong Wang to Wageningen in 2014. There, he started his master study at Wageningen University with the subject “Food Supply Chain Safety.”

After a master thesis at BEC and an internship in Wageningen Food Safety Research (WFSR), Zhengcong continued his PhD study in the field of Food Safety Economics in the same departments. Zhengcong is positive about his time in Wageningen. “With its systematic education setting and international environment, Wageningen University is an ideal place for studying and self-enhancement,” he says.

After his PhD research, Zhengcong will continue working as a researcher in the field of food safety and health economics. The chair group of Business Economics likes to wish him all the best in his future (research) career.
