CineScience movie talk: Hidden Figures
With their movie talk Kevin Matson, Ingrid Luijkx and Diana Machado de Sousa, on behalf of the Wageningen Young Academy, want to focus on the historical and present day position and role of women and other persons excluded because of their ethnicity or race in science and technology. ‘Hidden figures’ follows three talented female African-American mathematicians who played an important part in the US space program at NASA in the 1960s. After the movie you are invited to reflect on the importance of diversity and inclusivity of gender and race in science and why or how this could be promoted.
With CineScience movie talks, researchers from Wageningen University & Research give unique and accessible insights in their scientific work by linking it creatively to a personally selected movie or documentary.
WUR considers its connection with the city of Wageningen and its residents extremely important and is eager to show that everyone actually deals with the themes being researched and developed in Wageningen during everyday lives.
