Combinatorial toxicology
De veiligheid van ons voedsel is niet simpelweg een optelsom van de veiligheid van de verschillende bestanddelen maar wordt tevens bepaald door combinatie-effecten van die bestanddelen. Van veel individuele componenten is het toxicologische effect bekend. Over de veiligheid van combinaties hiervan is echter veel minder bekend.
Aan de hand van blootstelling van cellen aan een mengsel van mycotoxinen en pesticiden wordt gewerkt aan een model om combinatie-effecten te kunnen meten en voorspellen. Daarnaast wordt een protocol ontwikkeld om onbekende bioactieve stoffen, op ppb nivo aanwezig in een complexe matrix, te identificeren.
