The Animal Breeding and Genomics Centre, Biometris and NIOO-KNAW organized together a PhD-course on genotype by environment interaction, uniformity and stability at Wageningen University from 19-23 October. The course was attended by 35 participants coming from very diverse research areas (from animal to plant sciences) including academia and industry. The broad base of the background of participants and teachers offered an excellent platform for exchange of knowledge and research ideas between different disciplines.

The course was taught by dr. Piter Bijma, dr. Philip Gienapp, dr. Marcos Malosetti and dr. Han Mulder. The topics were addressed from different angles including animal and plant breeding and ecology. Statistical modelling of data as well as the interpretation of results for breeding and natural selection were discussed. The course was organized for the first time. The participants highly appreciated the multidisciplinary focus of the course. The course helped to strengthen the links between scientists at ABGC, Biometris and NIOO. The intention is to organize the course every 3-4 years.
