Verification strategies for natural hormones

For years, it is suspected that in the Netherlands and Europe there is illegal use of natural hormones as growth promoters in cattle.

Unfortunately, there are still no operational methods and criteria for the detection of the use of natural hormones in urine during the regular inspection. There is thus a great need for a model with corresponding decision criteria, which makes it possible to identify illegally with natural hormone treated animals. Ultimately this should result in a method suitable for routine implementation of the National Residue Control Plans by nVWA-VVLab.

In this project, a decision model is developed so that control authorities can distinguish between natural occurring (pro) hormones and illegally administered natural (pro) hormones.
