February 16th 2012 over 60 representatives of various organisations joined the official opening of new generation DNA sequencing facilities at Wageningen UR (University & Research centre) and Keygene N.V.
Speakers at the opening event were Tobias Ost (European Application Specialist Team Leader, PacBio), Emmo Meijer (Corporate Director Research & Development of Royal FrieslandCampina / Chair of Steering Group AgroFood & Innovation), Roeland van Ham (Vice-President Bioinformatics and Modeling, KeyGene) and Sandra Smit (Scientist, Plant Research International, Wageningen UR).
In their presentations speakers discussed the history of sequencing, its areas of application and current and anticipated developments.
The official opening act was carried out by Ernst van den Ende (CEO Wageningen UR Plant Research International and managing director Plant Sciences Group) and Arjen van Tunen (director KeyGene).
The new sequencing technology enables KeyGene and Wageningen UR to speed up their genomics research and develop new innovations in the field of selection, breeding and monitoring.
