About CSA

Climate change is threatening global food production and livelihoods, particularly in developing countries. At the same time, agriculture is a direct source of GHG and an indirect driver of deforestation. Thereby the call to fundamentally shift the agricultural agenda. CSA has the potential to enhance food security, while reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and increasing resilience to climate change.

Climate-smart agriculture (CSA) is an approach to achieve short and long-term agricultural development priorities and food security in the face of climate change. It simultaneously serves as a bridge to other development goals. It aims to:

  • sustainably increase agricultural productivity and incomes to meet national food security and development goals;
  • enhance people’s resilience and increase the capacity of agricultural and food systems to adapt to climate change;
  • seek opportunities to mitigate emissions of greenhouse gases and increase carbon sequestration.
