On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Wageningen University and Research (WUR) and the visit of WUR president, professor Louise O. Fresco, to New Zealand, the Netherlands ambassador Mira Woldberg hosted a WUR alumni reception on Friday December 7th, 2018. The reception was attended by 80 alumni, researchers, students and others with a connection to WUR.
After a word of welcome by ambassador Mira Woldberg, Prof. Louise O. Fresco gave a short introduction followed by three elevator pitches by WUR students/alumni currently at Massey University/Riddet Institute; Matthijs Nieuwkoop (visiting intern), Anika Hoogeveen (PhD student) and Caroline Giezenaar (Postdoctoral Fellow).
Prof Paul Moughan (Massey University, Riddet Institute) was awarded with the Silver Medal of Honour by Louise O. Fresco for his great contribution in the Netherlands/New Zealand scientific cooperation in protein nutrition for over 30 years (read the article here). Following the award ceremony prof. Paul Moughan gave a presentation.
During the alumni event a letter of intent was signed by Louise O. Fresco, four alumni volunteers and ambassador Mira Woldberg as honorary board member. The agreement is to further develop a formal Alumni Network in New Zealand. The four alumni volunteer board members are; Andrea ‘t Mannetje, Calum Revfem, Koen Overkamp and Jeroen Douwes.
