Equity takes into considerations differences which are marginalizing certain parts of the population and is recognises that different approaches may be necessary to produce outcomes that are equitable, Important aspects of marginalization are gender, income and poverty, life stage, youth, geography, ethnicity and disability. Equality is based in the premised that all men, women, youth and vulnerable and marginalised persons should be treated in the same way and is fails to recognize that equal treatment will not produce equitable results because persons have different life experiences. Equity and equality are linked but distinct and both very important and a better understanding of these concepts is needed to see how we can make sure to address them in our future work in food systems (research).

This seminar will discuss:

1.     Equity and equality in relation to marginalization in food systems;

2.     The role of youth and gender in food system transformations

3.     The spectrum of approaches and interventions to address equity and equality in food system
