Famelab 2019 – Wageningen heat
It is not surprising that from the beginning of FameLab Netherlands Wageningen offered students and young researchers the opportunity to participate in this international narrative competition. Sparkling communicating on your science project should be part of every scientific curriculum. Famelab - explain a concept in science in just three minutes, without using Powerpoint – can be seen as an event that provides participants with skills for the rest of their career.
The international Famelab round has been set up by the British Council and Cheltenham Science Festival. Participating researchers, between 21 and 40 years old, tell a story about their research while the audience hangs on their lips – hopefully. A three-member jury judges on content, clarity and charisma.
To give support to the selected participants, they receive a presentation training from a professional trainer prior to their performance. With that knowledge and skills in the pocket and together with the experiences during the Wageningen heat, two finalists can look forward to the national competition between the winners of other universities in the Netherlands. The British Council provides all finalists a two-days master class.
The national winner may take part in the international storytelling battle at the Cheltenham Science Festival in June.
Researchers, students and other persons interested are invited to join the Wageningen heat in the public stand. If you want guaranteed seating, please send an email to secretariaat.ccm@wur.nl stating Famelab. Please come on time, to avoid disturbing the speakers.
