Solo bassoon concert by Thomas Dulfer
Besides being a very talented bassoon player, Thomas Dulfer is a scientist with expertise in cardiovascular research. After he finished his exams at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, at which he graduated cum laude and with a medal for the best exam of the year, he recently completed a Cardiovascular Research Master at the VU medical centre. Chained to the heart rate monitor, the idea for his solo programme ‘Heartbeat’ was born.
Using his heart rate as guideline, Thomas takes you on a journey with his bassoon. Starting with the first work that was ever written for solo bassoon, he then accelerates to Heartbeat by Julian Schneeman which was written especially for him, and finally, via various routes, ends up with his own heart rate. With stethoscope and loop station Thomas makes you experience his virtuosity as bassoon player while you’re witness to the secrets and revelations of his heart rate.
