On June 14 Ensemble Tvaltai from the Free Agricultural University of Tbilisi, Georgia are performing a lunch concert!
The folk group Tvaltai (jewel) was formed in 1967 by Dali Kandelaki. All the members of the ensemble are students of the Agricultural University of Tbilisi, where you can choose a minor in music.
The ensemble has given many concerts on festivals in Georgia and abroad. When Dali died in 2000, her 17 years old daughter Ketevan Tsiklauri took over the direction of the ensemble. Since that time she has been the artistic leader of the group. Every now and then the group has to say goodby to some students and welcomes new ones.
The repertoire is Georgian folkmusic from the different regions of Georgia, most songs are typical Caucasian mountains songs. The songs are a capella or accompanied by typical Georgian folk instruments. Such as virtuoso solo’s of the salamuri (Georgian flute) accompanied by the panduri (three strings lute). The ensemble Tvaltai offers a varied program of melancholical ballads and powerful (mountain)songs.
The group always wears typical Georgian costumes during their performance.
When the weather is good the concert will be held outside in the amphitheatre.
