NRGlab guest lecture Geoffrey Thün, Infra-Eco-Logi Urbanism

The 16th of April, the NRGlab will host a guest lecture given by Geoffrey Thün, Associate Professor at the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan. The lecture, named Infra-Eco-Logi Urbanism, posits a manifesto for architecture at the urban scale in the context of near-future energy and mobility systems within the contemporary post-metropolitan condition of the Great Lakes Mega region.

This work investigates what have been considered the ‘back of house’ activities of cities and their support systems - infrastructures, logistics and ecologies – proposing that within these often externalized systems reside significant opportunities to transform the future of cities, settlement patterns and metropolitan life within the context of mega-regions. Through strategic design, the work proposes to leverage the significant renewable energy potential within the mega region towards resilient urban and public ends. In this détournement, a new infrastructural network is knit within current systems to avail opportunities for region-wide accessible transit, environmental rehabilitation and urban architectures for new public mega regional institutions.

Entrance of this lecture is free (no admission) and everyone is welcome.
