Parts of the population feel that their autonomy and their impact on decision making is not sufficient. And the legitimacy of elites is being questioned. In several countries people are experimenting with new ways of practicing democracy. What kind of innovations do we need in order to strengthen democracy? Are referenda a way forward? Should we re-introduce the ancient Greek lottery system to elect their governors and introduce citizens juries? With a better chance for everyone to not only be governed but also become a governor?

Prof dr. M. Leyenaar (RUN) takes us along the pros and cons of democratic innovation.
