TIPP lecture: Inside TTIP

Negotiations surrounding the planet’s most far reaching free trade agreement in human history are taking place right now. The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership is better known as TTIP. Goods and services have been exchanged around the planet for centuries. If globalisation is nothing new, then what is about TTIP’s attempt to regulate it? Join Dr. Giovanni Gruni, Assistant Law Professor (Europe Institute, Univ. Leiden) to find out.

Studium Generale invites you explore the framework of the treaty and rationale behind it. What does the historical context from which TTIP emerged tell us about the present negotiations and the direction this trade agreement is taking? How does the TTIP relate to the broader context of global economic governance? Does it differ from the World Trade Organisation and if so how? What can be said about TTIP’s compatibility with other global regulatory efforts such as climate change law, social protection or human rights?

Giovanni Gruni is Assistant Professor in World Trade Law at the Europa Institute of the University of Leiden. He holds a PhD in international trade law from the University of Oxford, an LLM in EU law from the European University Institute and a master degree in law from the University of Florence.
