WUR switching to a sustainable bank?

Wageningen University & Research is client of two Dutch banks: ABN Amro and Rabobank. In this event members of WageningenDebating will debate whereas switching to a more sustainable bank is a good idea. They will bring forward their best arguments in favour and against switching the bank to facilitate deep and well-reasoned discussion on this topic. In the format of American Parliamentary debate two teams will battle against each other in front of a jury.

At the beginning of this year over 1000 students and employees of WUR has signed the petition to support WUR switching to a more sustainable bank. The initiator of the petition, FossilFree Wageningen group demanded that WUR stops doing business with ABN Amro and Rabobank and becomes a client of one of the two top sustainable banks.

Both banks score mediocre in sustainability ranking EerlijkeGeldwijzer that compares different sustainability institutions with regards to sustainability of their investments. Triodos and ASN bank are on the other hand two national banks that have ambitious sustainability policies and explicitly make sustainable investments.
