In this symposium, we want to provide an overview of current progress in drone systems, methods and modelling approaches to support the development of sustainable agricultural systems. The use of drones allows to explore the increasing spatial detail in imagery to characterize crop growth and productivity up to the plant level. Still analysis approaches need to be developed that combine time-series data from multiple sensors to derive quantitative crop stress maps. Examples from precision agriculture and crop breeding will be provided. We hope this symposium will provide input for the discussion on the link between remote sensing and crop and plant sciences and the identification of future research priorities.

The workshop takes place after the PhD thesis defense of Chenglong Zhang entitled “Crop load estimation in orchards: the potential of single RGB images from unmanned aerial vehicles”. You are also invited to attend the public defense of his thesis at 11:00 in the Aula.
