Dies Natalis

Dies Natalis 2024 | From Globe to Gut: Unravelling the Microbiome

On Friday 8 March 2024, Wageningen University & Research celebrates its 106th Dies Natalis. This year's theme is: From Globe to Gut: Unravelling the Microbiome.

Organised by Wageningen University & Research
Date

Fri 8 March 2024 15:00 to 17:00

Microbiomes – microbial communities in specific habitats – play essential roles in life, at various scales and in many places. They are key to the multiple challenges faced by society, such as human and animal health, sustainable and safe food production, maintaining biodiversity in ecological webs, and resolving environmental pollution. We urgently need sufficient understanding of the composition, functioning, and behaviour of microbiomes in natural environments, human and animal bodies, and engineered systems in order to address today’s sustainability and health challenges.

Transfer of rectorship

During this Dies Natalis, the rectorship will be transferred from the current Rector Magnificus Arthur Mol to the new rector.
