Food & Climate Change: Water quantity and quality

Food security, production and processing suffer from climate change and changing availability and quality of water. Changes in e.g., precipitation, temperatures and biodiversity affect availability and quality of food production of crops, meat and dairy products. We have been looking into solutions like Climate Smart Agriculture, combination of production systems, implement circular approaches and nature-based solutions.

This creative brainstorm looks for WUR experts from plant, animal, social, data, environmental, technological and food safety domains to come up with creative research ideas that will put WUR as a frontrunner in designing climate adaptation of food systems. Therefore, we feel we need include trade-offs at multiples scales and explore avenues that tackle multiple challenges like biodiversity, efficient and safe (re-)use of natural resources like water, and the transition towards healthy and safe diets. Join us in a lively and animated discussion and make a change together!
