Navigating Sustainably in Stormy Waters: Economic Risks in Fisheries and the Role of Income Diversification and Governance
Summary
This thesis looks into the role of income diversification and governance in managing economic risks in fisheries. It analyzes this topic at the individual fisher level as well as looking into larger economic forces that affect the fisher, such as subsidies and global trade. The findings of this thesis can, hopefully, help fishers understand and manage their economic risks better. It can also help policy makers design policies that improve fishers’ resilience to economic shocks while managing fisheries in an environmentally sustainable manner.
