On Thursday September 30th at 20.00 hrs you are invited to join alumni in the Nordics as part of a special online gathering for our DEAN communities in the country.
The interactive evening programme includes brief updates from the universities followed by a short talk by Twente alumnus Wilfred Booij.
Per tradition, our gathering concludes with a virtual borrel (BYOB) where you and fellow alumni living in the Nordics will be mixed with each other to maximize interactions and stimulate conversations. Make sure to also bring some snacks and drinks for the borrel!
Wilfred Booij tells about both his career path and the challenges of setting up a corporate spin-off, and being the CTO of one of the leading technological pioneers in the new ‘indoor navigation’ industry Forkbeard Technologies AS. With nearly 100 patents to his name, UT alumnus Wilfred Booij’s Twitter profile motto ‘always inventing’ is well chosen. As the CTO of Forkbeard (a Norwegian startup company founded in 2019), he is currently active in the final frontier of navigation: The great indoors! This Norwegian start-up aims to become the indoor ‘GPS’ standard for retail, smart buildings, healthcare facilities and distribution centers with a solution combining the strength of ultrasound with sensor technologies. Prior to his work at Forkbeard and parent company Sonitor (where he was also CTO), Wilfred was a Senior Scientist in the Microsystems and Nanotechnology Lab at SINTEF, Norway's leading industrial R&D organization and a senior engineer at Hewlett-Packard (later Agilent Technologies) in the UK.
He earned a PhD from Cambridge University, where he graduated in 1997 on work involving the development of high speed superconducting digital devices.
“I thoroughly enjoyed participating, getting to meet others in my area, and meeting everyone else from across the eastern-half of North America and NL! It was a great escape from current times with stay-at-home orders, and not being able to travel. I look forward to participating again in the future.”
"Thanks very much. It was a very good experience to be able to link up with a group of people with the same background, same interest in France. Hope we will have more often such an opportunity!
The event was well organised, dynamic and participative."
"Great job! Unbelievable attention to detail made it better, including the idea/risk-taking of the borrels, the group facilitation, and the comprehensive follow-ups including survey, attendee list and especially WhatsApp local groups. Congrats to all who organized it!"
Join the event and register via the orange button. Please note that we have a maximum capacity of 100 participants for this activity – if necessary a waiting list will be created.
