Alumni meeting
Professional field committee for the Plant Sciences programmes
The Plant Sciences Group is looking for alumni to become part of a professional field committee. The aim of this committee is to collect feedback that contributes to keeping the Plant Sciences programmes up to date. For this committee, they would like to involve a diverse group of alumni. Are you active in a relevant work field and does this sound interesting to you? Keep on reading.
Do you want to be involved in keeping courses up to date and are you working in a field relevant to the Plant Sciences Group? Do you have about 3 to 6 hours of free time for this purpose on a yearly basis? If so, we are looking for you!
Alumni of different ages and graduation years, and from different backgrounds, are wanted for the professional field committee of the Plant Sciences programmes (MPB, MPS and MOA/MRF). We are looking for alumni working at or in the following:
- Plant breeders
- Horticultural companies
- (Large) Agricultural companies (arable farming)
- Crop protection (focusing on sustainable options for IPM)
- Research institutions
- Consultancy in agriculture and horticulture
- Government
- Professional associations
- Other universities (international)
- Certification and sustainability
Share your knowledge to help current and future students
By becoming part of the professional field committee, you will provide the Plant Sciences Group with input on the content of their courses, focus areas for the subjects offered, and how this knowledge connects to the questions you encounter in your work field. These questions can vary considerably: a business developer at a large seed company has different questions or needs than a senior researcher at a research institution.
By bringing together several profiles in a professional field committee, we ensure a broad representation and we can work on courses that better meet the needs of the labour market. This not only helps current and future students, but can also help you and your employer or company.
Expected commitment
The expected commitment for professional field committee members is 3 to 6 hours per year.
The professional field committee will be invited to an annual meeting in June of this year, organised in Wageningen, with the possibility of joining online as well. The agenda of this meeting will be sent in advance for preparation. This meeting will last about 2 hours and will take place towards the end of the working day.
Besides the annual meeting in Wageningen, you may have brief online contact with one of the courses once or twice a year if they have specific questions. These online meetings last about an hour.
In the case of mutual interest, from both the courses and the alumni involved, there is the possibility of continuing the collaboration and being part of the professional field committee for a longer period of time.
Registration
Have you become enthusiastic about participating in the professional field committee and would you like to get involved for current and future students so that their education better matches the labour market? You are welcome to apply!
Registration for the committee is possible until 24 April 2025 by sending an email to alumni@wur.nl. All alumni who get in touch will receive a reply from us.
