Summary

My PhD work focuses on developing easy, fast and quantitative analysis methods for natural compounds, with applications in rapid diagnostics and food quality control. Natural compounds are widely distributed in nature, and can be used as biomarkers for disease or indicators for food safety. Currently, the gold standard for natural compounds analysis requires complex sample processing and lengthy separation in the lab. In this thesis, selective paper spray mass spectrometry is introduced and developed, which requires very limited sample pretreatment, and can achieve the fast and quantitative analysis of natural compounds in biological and food samples. These methods achieve specific affinity to targeted compounds based on chemical modification of paper. These advancements contribute to the development of paper spray methods and offer a promising path forward for large-scale, on-site analyses.
