World talks: sheltering refugees future-proof, you can make a difference

We like to think that refugees are free to be themselves again in the Netherlands. But is this a perception or reality? And why were the possibilities for humane reception for all refugees in the Netherlands now better than in previous situations?

On Thursday evening 6 April, Frénk van der Linden will talk to various guests who have experienced the consequences of the war in Ukraine up close in the past year. The World Talk will take place in English.

We hear firsthand how Anna Sushko experienced our dealings as a Ukrainian refugee and how free she feels in the new situation.
From Pauline van Tuyll, board member of Welkom in Wageningen and employee of Vluchtelingenwerk, we learn how this aid organization was used as a refugee shelter. And how we can use this experience towards the future with a view to better/humaner reception and handling.
Bram Jansen, who immerses himself in refugee/migration studies as a lecturer at WUR, tells us where our behavior comes from and how we can use the origins of our behavior for an improved approach in the future.
