Blog: Dolphins swim along the ship at the herring survey

Researchers of IMARES leading the Dutch part of this year's North Sea herring acoustic survey and report from research vessel the Tridens. Yesterday morning, they were accompanied by a school of white-sided dolphins. There were about 10-20 of them hunting fish in the distance, but 3 dolphins started to swim along the ship for a while. Follow the researchers and read the blog.

The researchers will be on board the Dutch Fisheries Research Vessel Tridens to survey the area on a systematic, predefined cruise track. The combined internationally coordinated effort will deliver an estimate of the herring stock size in the North Sea.
