Blog: Nice location and special catch at the Beam Trawl Survey

Researchers of IMARES are on a Beam Trawl Survey in the North Sea, to get fisheries independent stock indices and estimates of the age-structure of North Sea plaice and sole. They go to special locations such as the Moray Firth and collect information on all fish and benthos. IMARES scientist Ingeborg de Boois reports in a Ship Blog.

The Beam Trawl Survey indices are used by the ICES Working Group on the Assessment of Demersal Stocks in the North Sea and Skagerrak for stock assessments and recruitment estimation. Both are important data sources for the catch predictions and hence for management advice.
