The Environmental Systems Analysis Group provides the possibility for students to do their thesis in collaboration with our group. This is one of many possible thesis subjects. Please feel free to contact Maria Reyes Peres MSc PhD (right) for more information.
SIMTWIST (Simulating tourism water consumption with stakeholders) is a three-year European project that aims to inform tourism decision-makers about the effectiveness of a variety of measures to reduce tourism’s water consumption. The project aims to 1) estimate tourism’s share in current and future macro-level water scarcity in the Mediterranean, and 2) study and simulate water-related behavior of tourism stakeholders at the micro-level. The project has two case-study areas: Benidorm and Rimini.
This thesis project or projects (one for Benidorm and one for Rimini) entail: 1) carrying out a review of available climatic data and climate scenarios from regional, national and European institutions; 2) assessing gaps in the literature found and developing relevant/specific scenarios for both case studies; and 3) create a framework for climate scenario development for coastal mass-tourist destinations.
