In a WUR wide program on agroforestry research we examine the effects of and interactions of crop diversification (mixing perennials with annuals) on the provision of agro-ecosystem services and feasibility of the system in the Dutch context. In the research program several projects take place, from establishing a network of farmers who (want to) combine annual agriculture with shrubs and trees, to ongoing and new to start field trials.
The tasks of the student can differ from assisting in field work and coordinating and planting of the field trials (e.g. above ground biodiversity monitoring) in summer months to data analysis, literature reviews and communication with farmers through field visits, newsletters and publications in winter months.
Requirements: knowledge on system analysis, system thinking and agroecology.
