Good Food Microclimates
At EXPO Milano 2015, LfM presented the Climate Rescue Unit and Good Food Landscape. The Climate Rescue Unit was used to inform visitors and help them map out possible urban agriculture projects that could be used to improve Milan’s local climate. LfM’s Good Food Landscape was presented in the Laboratory Jeep: a micro-landscape of herbs and sprouts grown under custom LED lightning.
SUPURBFOOD
Short food supply chains have been advocated as a means to reduce the environmental impact of the agro-food system. They can also play a role in addressing urban problems such as climate change, storm water control, obesity, unemployment, etc. However, to improve the ecological performance of the agro-food system, other flows (e.g. nutrients, water, and urban waste) need to be considered as well. Wageningen UR has been involved in the project SUPURBFOOD, that treats the flows in an integrated manner.
Urban Pulse
To reduce the environmental impact of cities and to safeguard access to energy, water, food and raw materials, a transition towards a circular urban metabolism is advocated by researchers and governments worldwide. The aim of the URBAN PULSE project is to inform this transition by understanding spatial and temporal dynamics of resource flows in the city of Amsterdam: the pulse of the city.
