Harvesting robot for peppers

A lot of manual labour has to be done in greenhouses. But increasingly fewer people are willing to do this hard, monotonous work. In an EU project researchers of Wageningen UR and international colleagues developed a prototype of a harvesting robot for peppers.

The robot searches for the fruits, takes 3D pictures of them, assesses their colour and shape and only harvests those that fit the requirements. Even at night and when it's hot the robot does its work. The first peppers have recently been harvested successfully in experiments. With robotics Wageningen UR improves the quality of life.
