Livestock disease management: practices, knowledges and multiplicity

Livestock diseases are hard work when they occur for farmers, veterinarians and for policymakers who set rules and regulations when outbreaks of certain diseases occur. Their practices are very different, and they approach livestock disease in diverse ways.  This research will help to understand how practices and knowledges of different actors prioritize different qualities and effects of a livestock disease when an outbreak occurs, leading to multiple ‘disease situations’.

Type of research

Qualitative research: ethnographic work involving observations of (treatment/diagnostic/policy) practices in different settings, next to conducting interviews.

Type of student

Background in both social and natural sciences is helpful. Broad interest in animal sociology/human-animal studies and livestock disease.
