Chickens lay most of their eggs in their nests, but some end up in the hay. Egg collection is both necessary and time-consuming. Wageningen researchers developed an autonomous robot that can move through the stall freely.
The robot identifies and collects missing eggs, thereby saving poultry farmers thousands of euros per year. The robot is also equipped with a device that can measure the stall climate or look after sick animals. The chickens adapted to the new addition rather quickly and soon saw it as a playmate. With this robotic egg collector, Wageningen UR is working on improving quality of life.
