Controlling disease-carrying insects
Mosquitoes, midges, sand flies and other blood-feeding insects are responsible for the transmittance of a large number of diseases, such as Zika, Schmallenberg and leishmaniasis. Tackling these insects and their diseases requires a collaborative effort across borders. The EU is therefore supporting a consortium that aims to facilitate EU-wide collaborative research and to develop standardized protocols for evaluating new tools for vector control. Wageningen brings in its state-of-the art research facilities and knowledge on novel tools for sustainable control of disease-carrying insects.
