Data Science Information Management
Since my start in the WDCC team almost a year ago, we have changed the programme line Data infrastructure to Information Management, emphasising the connection and cooperation between the WDCC & Information Management Team. Within the practice of information management, we do still work on data infrastructures, but that’s not the only thing.
WUR researchers have always practiced science with data and information. One could call every researcher an information and data manager in a way. To help researchers in doing so, we acknowledge the need of organisational support and facilities. That’s where this programme line comes into play.
Being in continuous connection with both the researchers’ needs and the organisation’s practices, we search for the next steps in growing our proficiency of getting the most out of WUR’s knowledge and information. Also given the trend of the increasing need of digital proficiency. In practice, this entails many different things from the right priority setting and financial allocation to further developing the research data infrastructure together with the other WDCC program lines and supporting departments.
After being on sick leave for nearly 3 months, I am now back at work, working on various things but one of them is identifying learnings from the Wageningen Common Data Solutions, hoping that this will result in a clear picture of the various groups’ needs in taking next steps in embedding information and data management practices.
